An antidote, A panacea
Yes, there seems to be something so powerful within our reach that is able to impact the deepest roots of the problem trees of our lives. Forgiveness lies at the core of many seemingly unrelated issues of human life. Human life is designed by God to learn of and live in forgiveness. That is a panacea. Oftentimes, in the Scriptures when people came to Jesus with their needs of healing and help, He invariably shocked them by saying, "Your sins are forgiven" (Matthew 9:2). Six times in His model prayer for His disciples, He used the term 'forgive.' God is a forgiving God. Man is supposed to be a forgiving man.

It's obvious that a tree receives its strength in three dimensions - nutrition from soil, air from the atmosphere and light from the sun. Likewise, forgiveness has three dimensions. Man needs to receive forgiveness from God. He needs to forgive himself. He also needs to forgive others. Forgiveness has ridiculous power for healing. Forgiveness is deep, wide and high. First, a man needs to receive forgiveness from God. Religious systems have corrupted the idea by promoting works program. We have sinned. In the spiritual legality, we are deadly guilty. There is no compensation that is enough. Some people pretend that they are good enough. But really speaking do they know how good is really good enough? Forgiveness cannot be bought. Honest intent cannot produce sinless people. If man was able to discover forgiveness for his sins any other way, God wouldn't need to go through the unimaginable toil of living in a human body and then eventually dying a painful death on the Cross. God has already made the payment and finished the work. Forgiveness was impossible, but it has been made easy. God has offered to forgive based on faith upon the Lord Jesus Christ. We all need to receive the offer. Forgiveness is so simple. Another dimension in which forgiveness operates is towards self. Guilt, condemnation and shame are not the buzzwords at the party. But they follow people to the party and from the party. You don't have to send them an invite to have these in the house. It is in Christ that there is no condemnation (Romans 8:1). It's not about how serious the nature of your offense has been. God has capacity to absorb any and every sin, only on the basis of Christ. Some people are trapped in their guilt. Demonic forces enjoy having them to live like wolves in the dark jungles. However, others are kept as sniffing, salivating, but well groomed detective dogs. Both are in the trap of unforgiveness. Holy Spirit communicates the depths of God's forgiveness into our hearts. No matter where you are in your life, no matter what you have done, it simply takes the tiny step of going to God with an open heart to be thoroughly cleansed (1 John 1:9). Third dimension in forgiveness seems to be a difficult one to some who are in real situations. Someone has genuinely hurt and offended you. You didn't deserve that treatment. You should not have been betrayed. It was all so unfair. Why hasn't God destroyed the person who inflicted pain on you? You feel so wounded. You know that you should forgive. You know that it's been so long. And yet, it's so hard to get it off your head. You even think that you have forgiven, yet forgetting is impossible. I understand that feeling. I have been there. Christ understands that more than all of us. He has been there. He came for His own and His own did not receive Him. The ones He loved crucified Him. The ones whom He valued mocked Him. He told us to return to reconcile even from the altar of worship. Forgiveness must be important to Him. Radical forgiveness, supernatural forgiveness, miraculous forgiveness is the kind of forgiveness God desires to train us in. Forgive anyone, everyone and the worst ones too. Don't keep it. Become simple like the doves. Bring it all to God. Homologeo in Greek signifies agreeing with God. Open it before Him. He is able to take all your feelings. He is able to change your heart. He is able to heal you. He is able to make you new. Once you are done with this part, much more can happen in this area. You may be surprised to have courage to confront and deal with the offender in love and truth. You might be able to initiate an impossible reconciliation. You may have an impact on someone's life. You may even be able to exercise love, maybe for the first time. In His presence, it's very easy. Just be forgiven and then, forgive!
