Fear not. You have a heavenly Father who loves you and is powerful to help you in times of need.
“I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.”
2Cor 6:18

Green Bed of Mercies
Someone may be bored, or in despair, or maybe lonely. Another may be anxious and discouraged. Another person may feel exhausted and trapped. We may blame it on people, circumstances, sin or the disintegrating nature of life itself. However, the love of God makes a different kind of invitation, "Behold, you art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bed is green." (Song of Songs 1:16) What does 'green bed' mean? How does a believer experience that? Sometimes it used to a get a little difficult for me to identify with the book 'Song of Songs' in the Bible. This is a unique book. It bothered some early theologians as to how this made its place in the Bible as an inspired book. This is written as a cluster of songs as part of an amazing, bold, unorthodox love poetry. It is titled as 'Song of Songs,' which means the greatest of all songs. Symbolically, it pictures Christ as the bridegroom and an individual believer or Church as the bride. Women may have an advantage over us in this regard. Some pictures make it hard for men to become a part of naturally. This picture of God inviting us to 'our bed' which is 'green,' is one such picture. But, Holy Spirit is well able to show us. The bed is a place of rest, communion and security. God loves to rest. Sabbath was meant to represent the rest of God. God desires to rest in and with man (Isaiah 66:1-2). We are invited into that place of rest. In Psalm 23:2, the author declares, "He makes me to lie down in green pastures : he leads me beside the still waters." "This is my rest for ever : here will I dwell; for I have desired it." (Psalm 132:14) "And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse (Christ), which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek : and his rest shall be glorious." (Isaiah 11:10) "To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing...." (Isaiah 28:12) "And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;" (Isaiah 32:18) God's people have the privilege of dwelling in a secure and permanent resting place - not just eternally in heaven, but also here on Earth as they experience their life hid with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). In the Old Testament, the Hebrew words for 'green' have some amazing meanings to convey. In His unique love relationship with us, our Saviour invites us into a personal and intimate place of communion with Him, which has these characteristics, that 'our bed is green' : Renewal and freshness in a naturally decaying life is no less than a miracle. We are new creatures. Old things are passed away. Whether we realise or not, today we are not what we were even yesterday. Even though our outer man perishes, but the inner man is being renewed everyday. Enter into a place of communion with Him recognising that we have new mercies for this morning (Lamentations 3:23). Our past sins and failures cannot consume us. We have a bed to lie down upon where we are recipients of supernatural freshness. "But my horn shall you exalt like the horn of an unicorn : I shall be anointed with fresh oil." (Psalm 92:10) Let the springs of hope rise within you by the Spirit O believer! You have the newness of divine life and plans ahead of you. Our place of communion is the source of our fruitfulness in His plans. In Psalm 92:14, we have been promised to be made fat and flourishing (Hebrew word for green) and told that we shall still bring forth fruit in old age. "The LORD called your name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit..." (Jeremiah 11:16a) God bears fruit in this world. He uses sinners saved by grace. The fruit is produced in the environment of grace and mercies of God. Prophet Hosea exclaims in 14:8 "I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found."  God's love has a fruit to produce in us and through us, in the communion of the Holy Spirit. We yield to Him in a place of His mercies. We hear Him whisper to us, "Your are fair."; "You are forgiven."; "You are loved."; "You are flourishing in Me." The green bed of mercies also represents a place of passion in love. From negative perspective, the idea often communicated in the writings of Old Testament prophets regarding idolatrous nation of Israel was that they 'enflamed themselves under every green tree.' At the 'green bed of mercies',  God teaches us to be loved by Him as we are. Our many loves in the life are not only quenched, but also exceeded by His love that is better than wine, and everything else. We experience the passions of God towards us. His love captivates us. "And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb : and the hand of the LORD shall be known toward his servants, and his indignation toward his enemies." (Isaiah 66:14) Wherever you are today in your walk with God, walk into that bedchamber of mercies of God, and let your heart be stirred, do not hesitate in pouring out the love of God in your calling. Keep your hearts burning with the love of God. Let the Spirit carry you out of the bedchamber into a world that is not green and make you fruitful even in the year of drought because your leaf has been made green (Jeremiah 17:8). Just, enter into His rest (Hebrews 4:10-11). PS - If you would like to enjoy a thought provoking spirituality quiz, then jump to our fun quiz page. You may also watch our YouTube videos.
