My Tears, My worship

My Tears, My worship

In the gospels, we read of an incident where a woman with a reputation gatecrashed a party of some religious people. Of course, she did not have any major interest in their party. Possibly her kind of parties were very different than theirs. Yet, she acted boldly that day. The woman came in because Jesus was there. She figured out a way to slip in close to the so called Rabbi and the Messiah. Also, she did something noticeable and odd. She washed His feet with her tears and wiped those with her hairs. Something deep occurred in that place that led her to cry. The core of the story is that this woman's sins were forgiven that day and she cried with tears in worship.

The story reminds me of those moments in my own life when I have sensed a manifest presence of God and have almost involuntarily entered the experience of worshiping the living God. Worship is not just a religious activity or a ritual. True and spiritual worship manifests in a variety of ways. It is dynamic and unique. Not only is it transformative, but also it is deeply inspiring. Worship is not really so much about how we do it, but it is about Who is the target of our worship. If I worship the wrong One, then whatever be the method and intent, it doesn't really fly.

In the Bible we find some more moments of worship captured, which seem totally different. The woman in our story cried in worship. Another one preached to worship. A widow dropped her last few available coins into the temple treasury and she did that as an act of worship. People like Moses and Nehemiah undertook a magnificent construction project. And some in the history of Christian faith surrendered their lives in martyrdom while forgiving their tormentors.

I have my way to worship and you have yours. We do not judge our ways. It is too personal and extremely sacred. It is an act between the living God and a fragile man. We need not be introspective about our methods, rather we should be very careful about the object of our worship. I invite you to share your moments if you would be comfortable, for the sake of others who are reading. Use the comment box below.

I have tears in worship. Your songs maybe your worship. My thoughts are my worship.

I write when I worship. I sing when I worship.

And there can be much more .... meditate, cry, raise hands, dance, ................ I am alive because I worship.
